PrepMate ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our interview preparation service.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Resume content: When you upload your resume (PDF or Word), we extract the text to generate personalized interview questions.
• Job descriptions: Optional text you provide to tailor questions to specific roles.
• Practice answers: If you use practice mode (Pro feature), your typed or recorded answers are sent to our AI for feedback.
• Payment information: When you purchase Pro, Stripe (our payment processor) collects your payment details. We never see or store your full credit card number.

Automatically Collected Information

• Browser data: We store your Pro status and license key in your browser's localStorage (on your device, not our servers).
• Usage analytics: We may collect anonymous usage data (pages visited, features used) to improve PrepMate. This data cannot identify you personally.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to provide and improve PrepMate's services:

• Generate interview questions: Your resume and job description are sent to Claude AI (Anthropic) to create personalized questions.
• Provide AI feedback: Your practice answers are analyzed by Claude AI to give you scored feedback and improvement tips.
• Process payments: Stripe handles all payment processing. We receive confirmation of successful payments to activate your Pro status.
• Improve our service: Anonymous usage data helps us understand which features are most valuable and fix bugs.

3. Data Storage and Retention

What We Store

• On your device (localStorage): Your Pro status, license key, free tier usage count, and practice session history.
• On our servers: Nothing. We don't store your resume, questions, answers, or personal data on our servers.
• With Stripe: Payment records (email, amount, date) are stored by Stripe according to their privacy policy.

How Long We Keep Data

• Resume and questions: Processed in real-time and not stored. Once you close the browser tab, they're gone (unless you saved them to your device).
• Practice data: Stored in your browser's localStorage indefinitely (or until you clear it).
• Payment records: Kept by Stripe for 7 years (legal requirement).

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Anthropic (Claude AI): Processes your resume and answers to generate questions and feedback. Data is sent via secure API and not stored by Anthropic. Anthropic Privacy Policy

• Netlify (hosting): Hosts the PrepMate website. May collect standard web server logs (IP address, browser type). Netlify Privacy Policy

5. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights:

• Access: You can view all data stored in your browser by opening DevTools (F12) → Application → Local Storage.
• Deletion: Clear your browser's localStorage to delete all PrepMate data from your device. This removes your Pro status (you can restore it with your license key).
• Opt-out: Don't use PrepMate if you don't want your resume processed by AI.
• Payment data: Contact Stripe to request deletion of payment records (subject to legal retention requirements).

6. Security

We take security seriously:

• HTTPS encryption: All data sent between your browser and our servers is encrypted.
• No server storage: Since we don't store your resume or answers, there's nothing to hack or leak.
• Stripe PCI compliance: Payment data is handled by Stripe, which is PCI DSS Level 1 certified (the highest security standard).
• License key validation: Keys use checksum validation to prevent unauthorized access.

7. Children's Privacy

PrepMate is not intended for users under 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you're a parent and believe your child has used PrepMate, please contact us at [email protected].

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of PrepMate after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
